Joan LeLacheur
The sky is pink; the sun is about to come up. Joanie gets ready to take her morning stroll on Menemsha pond as she has done for the past 40 years on Martha’s Vineyard. She gathers some conch, quahog, mussels and moonsnail shells. Each shell determines what It might be, a disc,  a pendant, a heart, a bead, a star, a button.  Some small bits will be added to make her mosaic tiles she .  will take the shell home now and with a bit of cutting, and shaping with her lapidary tools there will be a piece of Ocean jewelry ready to be worn on a  wrist, neck or ear fastened by a finding.of silver, or a ribbon, of soft leather cord   The piece of shell she is currently shaping and polishing will be a necklace, a gift for her Great Niece ,  the latest addition to her family. On a bench in her studio sit the inner spirals  of the conch shell.  these will to be used as skewers  for Deon’s delectable conch cocktails and grilled conch at his restaurant
Joan’s  shell treasures are held dear. They remind the wearer  of the beauty and serenity, of this beautiful place

Kenworthy’s summer collection contains silk and linen dresses, pants and tops and featuring their new line of clothing made on Martha’s Vineyard and hand embroidered by a family in Oaxaca Mexico.
